Do you want to homeschool but can't?

Our Mission

A culture affirming microschool community (grades 5-8) that emphasizes experienced based learning to provide education that is far beyond standardized.

At Legacy Learning Labs, our mission is to empower students through innovative education. We strive to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity and creativity.

Innovative Curriculum

We have developed an innovative curriculum that is designed to meet the needs of a diverse student population. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students intellectually, while also fostering creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Examples:

Upper-Level Grade 8:

Literature & History Integration with Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston

  • Input (Lens) - Culturally Affirming: Centering Black female voices and lived experiences in early 20th-century America

  • Activity - Students read and analyze Their Eyes Were Watching God alongside historical context of the Harlem Renaissance and Jim Crow South

  • Output - Literary analysis, reflective journaling, and Socratic discussion

  • Outcome - Students gain historical understanding of race, gender, and identity through period literature

  • Impact - Students compare and contrast Hurston’s cultural themes with contemporary issues of identity, equity, and voice

Lower-Level Grade 5:

Social‑Emotional Literacy & Community Building with Grumpy Monkey: School Stinks! by Suzanne Lang

  • Input (Lens) - Exploring emotions, identity, and belonging through a character who feels misunderstood- validating the real experiences.

  • Activity - Students read Grumpy Monkey: School Stinks! and analyze the author's feelings about returning to school. Identify moments of frustration, embarrassment, and support, then connect these to their own school experiences.

  • Output - Emotion‑mapping, brief reflective writing, and a class discussion on how communities can help when school “stinks.”

  • Outcome - Students build emotional vocabulary, recognize triggers and strengths, and practice empathy by examining how characters navigate big feelings.

  • Impact –   Students compare Jim’s journey with their own experiences of feeling out of place - strengthening self‑awareness, regulation, and community connection.

Diverse Student Body

Our school community is diverse and inclusive, and we celebrate the unique perspectives and backgrounds of our students. We believe that a diverse student body enriches the learning experience for all students.

Committed to Community

We are committed to being an active and engaged member of our local community. We believe that education is a partnership between the school, students, parents, and the community, and we work hard to foster positive relationships with all stakeholders.
